Kansas City Chiefs Acquire Xavier Worthy in Blockbuster Draft-Day Trade
Chiefs Bolster Receiving Corps with First-Round Selection
Kansas City Swaps Up to Draft Speedy Texas Wideout
The Kansas City Chiefs made a bold move in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, trading up with the Buffalo Bills to select wide receiver Xavier Worthy from Texas with the 28th overall pick.
The Chiefs sent their original first-round pick (32nd overall) and a future second-round selection to Buffalo in exchange for the talented playmaker.
Worthy, a former five-star recruit, had a standout season with the Longhorns in 2023, racking up 1,463 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns. He is known for his lightning-fast speed, exceptional route-running ability, and natural hands.
The Chiefs' decision to acquire Worthy is a clear indication that they are looking to upgrade their receiving corps. After trading Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins in 2022, the Chiefs have lacked a true deep threat in their offense.
Worthy's addition gives quarterback Patrick Mahomes a much-needed weapon to stretch the field and create big plays. His speed and agility will also make him a valuable asset in the Chiefs' short passing game.
The Chiefs are hoping that Worthy can make an immediate impact in their offense and help them return to Super Bowl contention in 2024.
