New York Mets J D Martinez Dj Stewart Boston Red Sox Designated Hitter

The New York Mets Sign J.D. Martinez and DJ Stewart, Bolstering Their Lineup

Mets Add Firepower with Martinez

The New York Mets have signed free agent designated hitter J.D. Martinez to a one-year contract, the team announced Tuesday.

Martinez, 35, is a four-time Silver Slugger and two-time All-Star. He has hit at least 25 home runs in each of the past five seasons, including 42 with the Boston Red Sox in 2023.

The Mets are hoping Martinez can provide a boost to their offense, which ranked 24th in the majors in runs scored last season.

Stewart Brings Versatility

The Mets also signed free agent outfielder DJ Stewart to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Stewart, 28, is a former first-round pick who has played for the Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners, and Texas Rangers.

Stewart is a versatile player who can play all three outfield positions. He also has some experience at first base.

Mets Bolster Their Lineup

The signings of Martinez and Stewart give the Mets a much-needed boost to their lineup.

Martinez is a proven power hitter who can provide protection for Pete Alonso in the middle of the order. Stewart is a versatile player who can provide depth and athleticism to the outfield.

The Mets are hoping that these two additions can help them contend for a World Series title in 2023.
