GDDKiA: Bridges destroyed and some roads blocked in Opole, Silesia and Lower Silesia provinces

Heavy rainfall and swollen rivers have caused severe damage to infrastructure in southern Poland.

The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) has reported that several bridges have been destroyed and roads blocked in the Opole, Silesia and Lower Silesia provinces. The most severe damage has occurred in the Opole province, where the bridge over the Oder River in Krapkowice has collapsed.

Other bridges that have been damaged or destroyed include the bridge over the Nysa Kłodzka River in Kłodzko, the bridge over the Bóbr River in Jelenia Góra, and the bridge over the Kwisa River in Leśna. In addition, several sections of road have been blocked due to flooding, including the A4 motorway between Wrocław and Gliwice, the A1 motorway between Częstochowa and Gliwice, and the national road No. 94 between Kłodzko and Ząbkowice Śląskie.

GDDKiA advises drivers to avoid the affected areas if possible and to follow the instructions of local authorities.

The agency is working to repair the damaged infrastructure as quickly as possible, but it is likely that some roads and bridges will remain closed for an extended period of time. Drivers are advised to check the GDDKiA website for the latest information on road closures and traffic conditions.

The heavy rainfall that has caused the flooding is expected to continue in the coming days, and GDDKiA is urging residents in the affected areas to take precautions to protect themselves and their property. The agency is also working with local authorities to provide assistance to those who have been affected by the flooding.

Additional information:

  • The GDDKiA website has a map showing the location of the road closures and traffic conditions.
  • The Polish government has declared a state of emergency in the affected areas.
  • The Polish Red Cross is providing assistance to those who have been affected by the flooding.
