Aldo, who entered the fight with a 25-1 MMA record, dominated Mendes from the opening bell. The Brazilian champion used his superior striking and grappling skills to control the pace of the fight and wear down his opponent.
Mendes, who came into the bout with a 16-2 MMA record, fought valiantly but was unable to match Aldo's skill and experience. The American wrestler landed several takedowns, but Aldo was able to neutralize his offense and eventually take top position.
